Bangkok Burns is a rarity in that the voice held me despite some really aggravating "jarring" moments. I started reading it yesterday, put it down and picked it up again! I enjoyed the setting, the family dynamics, the unapologetic approach and the well-thought out way Royle depicted the ultra-rich and Asian society. Bangkok Burn was a hit. I wasn’t sure if readers could get into the “strangeness of Thailand”, but it turns out that is one of the readers favorite aspect of the books. Both of the first two books in the series were easy to write.
